Canon Service Tool V3400: The Ultimate Utility for Fixing Canon Printer Errors

Your faithful Canon printer has stopped working. The power light and alarm light are blinking alternately (usually 7 times), and your computer screen displays the dreaded error code: 5B00, P07, or "The ink absorber is full."

Printer Canon

This is not a hardware failure. It's a software lock. To fix it, you need the factory utility: Canon Service Tool V3400.

However, Canon printers are trickier than Epsons. You cannot just open the software and click reset. You must first perform a specific button combination to enter "Service Mode." If you skip this, the software will give you Error 006.

Step-by-Step Reset Guide

Follow these steps strictly. The timing of the buttons in Step 1 is critical.

STEP 1: Enter Service Mode (Must Do!)

Do not open the software yet. Do this on the printer physical buttons:

  1. Turn the printer OFF, but leave the power cable connected.
  2. Press and HOLD the Resume/Cancel button (Orange Triangle).
  3. While holding Resume, press and HOLD the Power button (Green Light).
  4. Keep holding Power, but RELEASE the Resume button.
  5. While still holding Power, press Resume exactly 5 TIMES. (The light will flash Orange > Green > Orange > Green...).
  6. Release ALL buttons.

Check: If the green power light stays SOLID (not blinking), you are in Service Mode. Proceed to Step 2. If it blinks, try again.

STEP 2: Preparation

1. Connect the printer via USB Cable (WiFi will not work).
2. Put 2 sheets of A4 paper in the rear tray.
3. Extract the downloaded ZIP file.

STEP 3: Open Service Tool

Run Service Tool V3400.exe. If possible, Right-click and choose "Run as Administrator".

STEP 4: Select "Main" Counter

Look for the section titled "Clear Ink Counter" (usually on the right side).

  • Absorber: Select "Main" from the dropdown.
  • Counter Value: Leave it at 0%.

STEP 5: Execute Reset

Click the "Set" button next to "Main".

The printer will make a mechanical noise and print a small text (D=000.0). A popup on your screen will say "A function was finished." Click OK.

STEP 6: Power Cycle

1. Close the software.
2. Turn OFF the printer using the power button (Wait for it to fully shut down).
3. Turn the printer back ON.

Done! The 5B00 error is gone.

Troubleshooting: Error 006

Error Code 006 (Communication Error)

If you see this error, the software cannot talk to the printer.
Reason 1: The printer is NOT in Service Mode (Is the green light blinking? It must be solid).
Reason 2: You are using a USB 3.0 Port (Blue). Try a USB 2.0 Port (Black).
Reason 3: You have multiple Canon drivers installed. Uninstall other printers temporarily.
