The Essential Technician's Toolkit

A computer technician is only as good as their tools. Whether you are performing a clean install, diagnosing hardware, or setting up a new PC, these are the essential software categories you need on your USB drive.

Bootable USB Tools

Before installing anything, you need a way to boot the OS. Rufus is the gold standard for creating single-OS drives. However, Ventoy is highly recommended for technicians as it allows you to copy multiple ISOs (Windows, Linux, Rescue Disks) onto one drive and choose which one to boot from a menu.

Driver Management

After a clean install, drivers are the priority. Always aim for official drivers from Intel, AMD, or NVIDIA first. "Driver Pack" solutions should be a last resort for legacy hardware where official support has ended.

Visual C++ Runtimes

Many applications and games will fail to launch with "Missing DLL" errors on a fresh Windows installation. Installing the Visual C++ All-in-One package is a standard post-install step to prevent these issues.
