The Epson SX235 (and its Wi-Fi sibling, the SX235W) is widely regarded as one of the most reliable compact printers for home use. It prints sharp photos and handles documents with ease. However, like any precision electronic device, it has a built-in maintenance cycle that can suddenly halt your productivity

.If you are reading this, you are likely staring at a printer that refuses to print. The indicator lights are flashing alternately, and your computer is displaying a critical error message: “Service Required” or “Parts inside the printer are at the end of their service life.”
It is a frustrating situation, especially when you have deadlines. But do not panic. Your printer is not broken hardware-wise. It is simply in a "software lock" state, and we can fix this together in under 10 minutes.
Understanding the "Service Required" Error
To fix the problem effectively, it helps to understand what is happening inside your machine. The Epson SX235 contains porous sponges known as Waste Ink Pads. These pads collect excess ink during printhead cleaning cycles and borderless printing.
Epson engineers programmed a digital counter into the printer's mainboard to estimate the ink saturation of these pads. When this counter reaches 100%, the printer locks itself to prevent potential ink overflow on your desk. It is a safety feature, but often the physical pads are not actually full yet.
The Solution: We will use the Epson Adjustment Program (Resetter) to reset this digital counter back to 0%. This tells the printer, "I have installed new pads," allowing you to resume printing immediately.

This utility software is the standard tool used by technicians to service Epson printers. It is lightweight and runs on Windows.
Step-by-Step: How to Reset Your Printer
Please follow these instructions carefully. The Adjustment Program interacts directly with your printer's firmware.
-
1
Disable Antivirus Temporarily
Why? Adjustment tools modify system registry files to communicate with the printer hardware. Antivirus software often flags this behavior as a "False Positive." Pause your protection for a few minutes to ensure the tool runs correctly.
-
2
Extract the Files
The downloaded file is compressed (ZIP/RAR). Right-click the file and select Extract Here. The program will not work if you try to run it directly from inside the ZIP file.
-
3
Run the Adjustment Program
Open the extracted folder and double-click on
AdjProg.exe. If prompted by Windows, click 'Yes' to run as administrator. -
4
Select Model & Port
1. Click the Select button.
2. Under Model Name, choose SX235W.
3. Under Port, leave it as Auto Selection (ensure the printer is connected via USB cable).
4. Click OK. -
5
Enter Maintenance Mode
Click the button on the right labeled Particular Adjustment Mode.
-
6
Reset the Counter
1. Scroll down to the Maintenance section.
2. Select Waste ink pad counter and click OK.
3. Check the box next to Main pad counter.
4. Click the Initialization button. -
7
Restart the Printer
A pop-up will ask you to turn off the printer. Press the power button on the printer to turn it off completely. Wait a few seconds, then turn it back on. Click OK on your screen.
Expert Tip
Important: You have successfully reset the software limit, but remember that ink is physically present in the pads. This software fix is perfect to get you back to work immediately. However, if you print thousands of pages annually, we recommend inspecting the pads or installing an external waste ink bottle in the future to keep your desk clean.
